The Quiet is Loud: Why Peace Feels Like a Trap

Most people tell you that once you find peace, you’ve made it.

They describe it like a sunset or a long exhale.
They don’t tell you that at first, peace feels a lot like boredom.
And for people like us, boredom feels like a threat.

When your nervous system is calibrated to chaos, "normal" feels wrong.

I spent years addicted to the fire.
I knew how to navigate the flames. I knew how to survive the crash. I was an expert at the "save me" and the "screw you.". There’s an adrenaline in the mess that makes you feel alive, even when it’s killing you.

Now?
Things are quiet.
The dog is fed. The bills are paid. I’m not running from a ghost or chasing a high. And honestly? Some days, I hate it.

The Addiction to the High Stakes

When you stop numbing and start living, you realize that 90% of a healthy life is actually pretty mundane.
It’s laundry. It’s grocery lists. It’s sitting on the porch without a drink in your hand.

Your brain, still wired for the "survival identity," starts looking for a problem to solve.
It starts poking at old wounds just to see if they still bleed.
It whispers, “This is too quiet. Something must be wrong. If you aren't fighting a fire, are you even doing anything?”

That’s the trap.

We mistake peace for emptiness.
We mistake a lack of drama for a lack of purpose.

Majick in the Stillness

I’m learning that the "majick" isn't just in the big transformations.
It’s in the ability to sit in the quiet and not try to burn the house down just to see the sparks.

It’s about retraining your heart to beat for the small things.
The way the coffee tastes.
The way the sun hits the floor.
The fact that I can look at myself in the mirror and not want to look away.

It isn't "boring." It’s safe.
But when you’ve never been safe, safety feels like a cage.

How to Stay When You Want to Run

Call it what it is.
When you feel that itch to cause trouble, say it out loud: "I’m not bored. I’m just peaceful, and I’m not used to it yet."

Lower your expectations for "excitement."
A good day doesn’t have to be a movie. A good day can just be a day where nothing went wrong. That is a massive win.

Focus on the dog (or the anchor).
When the quiet gets too loud, I look at the dog. He’s not bored. He’s just existing. He’s content with the mundane. I’m trying to learn that from him.

The Bottom Line

If you’re sitting in the quiet today and you feel like you’re crawling out of your skin—hang on.
You aren't failing. You’re just recalibrating.

You’ve spent a lifetime surviving the storm. Give yourself a little time to learn how to live in the sun.

The silence isn't a void. It’s the space where your new life is finally allowed to grow.

Stay in the quiet. The majick is coming.

xoxo.

Stop reading the room. Start reading the soul. Below the fold lies the unfiltered truth of how we burn and how we grow.
